Why tuxs.org

In short, the penguin you see to the left is named Tux and is the official Linux mascot.

Linux Torvalds, the father of Linux, suggested a penguin as the Linux mascot and a competition was held on the internet to find a design. Larry Ewing designed the winning image. This image can be freely re-used as long credit is not taken from Larry Ewing.

Whole websites are now dedicated to galleries of Tux and his life story.
