Installing Linux on your computer (part 2)

After this you will probably be asked what type of installation you want to perform. I suggest choosing the default installation as it will do most of the complicated work for you.

Next you can choose the type of software that will be installed on your system (such as software for the home or office) The next part takes the longest, this is when Linux and the software is actually installed. The length of time this takes will depend on the speed of your computer and the amount of software you have selected to install.

After this you will be asked to create user accounts. One of these will be called "root" and is used to install software and do anything "dangerous" on your computer. You must have a root user but only log on as root when necessary as root has unlimited superpowers and can kill a whole computer just by sneezing! The other account will be the one that you use to log on everyday and can be called anything you would like.

Your computer will restart and once it has powered up again and you have logged in the last step will be checking for updates to fix any bugs and plug any small security holes. This is highly recommended.

All done! Now you are ready to start using your new Linux computer! Congratulations!!
