Where can I get Linux?

Linux can be downloaded for free from each distributions own website. A high speed (broadband) internet connection is recommended as these files are very large and a CD writer is required to make the installation CDs.

The files that you download from the distributions website are CD images ("ISO" files) and need to be put on to a CD. The help files for your CD writing software should give you directions for creating a CD from an ISO file as it is slightly different from creating a regular CD.

If you don't have a fast internet connection you can legally copy a Linux CD from a friend or buy it very cheaply from tuxs.org.

Tuxs.org offers two specially selected Linux distributions for you to buy. To make it easy for you to get started with Linux we have picked one distribution suited for older computers (DSL Linux) and one user friendly distribution (Kubuntu) for newer computers. Buy DSL Linux and Kubuntu here.
